Former Spice Girl Mel C is expecting her first child with partner Thomas Starr, the British Daily Mirror reported on Friday.

The couple confirmed the pregnancy of Melanie Chisholm, 34, who became known as Sporty Spice.

There had been rumours about her possible pregnancy in recent weeks when she appeared in loose-fitting clothes at a show.

Chisholm is the last of the Spice Girls to announce she is pregnant.

The former Spice Girls Geri Halliwell, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, and Victoria Beckham all have children, totalling six among the former girl band.

"Some happy news,” she wrote this morning. “Well, I can now announce that Tom and I are expecting a baby and we are very happy.

"I will be taking it easy but am also excited to start writing for the fifth album.

“I will need to take some time off to be a mum but, before you know it, we'll be back."
